Doctors and Dentists
I don’t know what is it but I am always scared of doctors. When I get to know that a person is doctor, I cannot talk to that person normally again. Something about the word doctor scares me. So it is normal that I get even more scared when I have to visit a clinic.
Of all the doctors, Dentists scare the hell out of me. I still remember the tantrums I used to throw as a kid when it was time to visit the dentist. I would suffer silently but I would never tell mom I was having tooth pain. If my mom somehow succeeded in taking me to the dentist, then it was the doctor’s turn to get scared. I am sure she was more scared of me than I was of her. She was clearly a fresher and hadn’t handled patients like me. I never let her wear the mask. It scared me a lot! Before she put anything in my mouth, she had to explain to me what she was doing and why. May be her examiners also hadn’t been so tough. When she did explain the agenda, she had to convince me it won’t be painful. After 20 pleas from the dentist and 100 pleas from mom, I would let her. But then I would start yelling at the top of my voice. The person staying next door would sometime come to see what the matter was. After the first couple of times, he would see my face and understand it was going to be noisy.
So imagine my plight when I had to go alone to the dentist last month. My wisdom tooth decided it was the perfect time to make its appearance as I had no holidays to return home. I took the pain silently for a week but when I couldn’t open my mouth even to eat food, I decided it was time to visit the dentist. I was literally shivering when I stepped inside the clinic. My friend couldn’t fathom how one can be so scared of a mere visit to the dentist. To my credits, I didn’t shout. I politely smiled when the doctor said the tooth had to be operated. I took the prescription and vowed never to return back. The pain receded with the medicine and thankfully I didn’t have to return back. To date, my friends make fun of me.
