“Bend your leg slightly and lean towards your right. Yes, that’s right. Now hold your hand under the cheek. Why is there a tissue paper in your hand? That’s an unnecessary prop. Throw it away. Yes, hands under the cheek. Now Smile please” The photographer was busy clicking here pictures. I could see how irritated she was. She was never the one to pose for pictures. If this continued for some more time, she would get frustrated for sure. So I tried to cheer her up by cracking stupid jokes and that did the trick. She was smiling happily this time.
I feel a tear trickling down my cheek. I wipe it quickly lest someone sees me. I quickly compose my face and force a smile to complete the look. I look around quickly to see if anyone had noticed anything. Nope. Everyone was busy pulling the bride’s leg. The bride, my best friend, looked radiant. The smile was lighting up her face and if possible she looked more beautiful than she already was. I could feel myself smiling, this time a genuine smile. I was happy seeing her happy. Today was her day and I wasn’t going to spoil it by becoming a sentimental fool. I wasn’t going to make her cry.
Amidst the chaos, she signalled me to come over. “Don’t think I didn’t notice you crying. The feeling of getting married hasn’t sunk in yet and I am enjoying all this happily. Don’t you cry and make me cry too” she chided me gently. I nodded.
She is my best friend, partner in crime, my soul sister and my personal counsellor! Oh, how I miss her. One more day and she will be married. She will fly to Dubai, leaving me all alone here. Who will I run to whenever some problem props up? Who will I confide my secrets to? Who will I visit everytime I visited my hometown? I remembered all the happy times we had spent together. It made me even more sad because it was coming to an end. Sure, technology will make things a bit easier but it won’t be the same. I will always miss her.. A LOT! Missing one’s best friend is never easy!
Have you ever felt the same? Are you in touch with your best friend still? Let me know in the comments below.
Until the next post,
Keep Smiling 🙂
